The Need
There were several systems based on mainframes and AS400. Collectively they were responsible to ensure that a sales person would know the availability of a particular telecom service for a given location. The systems were traditional and lacked a graphic interface. Data was stored in several systems and there was no single window system to access and respond to the customer quickly. A web based enterprise framework that integrated these systems and provided a simple to use interface for the sales and marketing teams was the need of the hour.
The Solution
The challenge was to understand existing systems, architect data integration techniques and build an enterprise framework on which future features could be developed. Together with an onsite coordinator, the development team at Chimera created an application framework that included a complex security model, transaction locking and session sharing along with data migration and integration techniques. An exhaustive plan was prepared and Chimera started to build the application incrementally. Across multiple internal releases with about 100 man months of effort Chimera completed a successful development. This also enabled the organization to migrate to newer platforms. The complete solution is under transition.
