Case Study
Case 1:
Online Customer survey portal
The Need:
Client required a website to enable consumers to share knowledge about service providers.
Chimera was requested to do a detail study on the requirement i.e. system study, architect and deliver a solution.
The Solution:
Chimera made a detail system study of the requirement and quickly built a HTML prototype and got an approval from the customer.
Considering the time constraint, a team was built with DB Developers, .Net Developers, UI Developers and a Project Manager.
An agile process was followed and parallel development in each area was planned and a scalable system was developed and delivered.
With a series of discussion and exchange of questionnaire documents the requirement was frozen very quickly.
Parallely with the HTML prototype development other base requirement like identifying DB schema and base classes for .net
was completed. The application was unit tested with test stubs and the QA team was involved in regression testing with test cases.
In a very short time a usable system by the customer was ready for deployment on schedule and budget.
Case 2: Kiosk based Sleeping bed
management system
The Need:
The customer is in the business of renting out pods or nap
tables that would allow their customers to pay for a certain
period of time and use them. A custom kiosk software was required
to enable their customers to visually choose the pod they wish
to and pay for it. In addition to the selection of pods the
software would also help customers buy other branded
merchandise. There was a need for a store assistant terminal too
that would be used by customers’ staff that would act as point
of sale (POS) terminal. On success of the initial
implementation, further plans for integrating kiosks with
multilingual features were envisaged. Chimera was required to do
detailed requirement analysis, architect the solution and
develop the first phase in quick time.
The solution:
Identifying the business needs and the time constraint Chimera
quickly assembled a team of developers, graphic artists, flash
programmers, application architects, test leads and a project
manager. An agile process was set in place. A UI independent
architecture was proposed. A scalable system that could adopt to
multiple languages and would work in a distributed environment
was selected. With a series of questionnaire documents and
personal discussions, the requirements were frozen in terms of
use cases, screen flow diagrams and screen definitions. The team
identified interface definitions that include business objects,
messages and message structures. A UI team started to implement
the specifications in flash and actionscripting, while the other
team set its sail by starting to get the database, business
objects specifications straight. On having the initial screen
flows using flash, database design and the class diagram, the
prototype of the application was showcased and approved.
Independent teams developed the application using the approved
prototype and design structures. The application was unit tested
with test stubs and finally integrated to the flash based UI.
The agile mechanism ensured the cohesive and close association
of the team members that involved daily reviews and usage of
rapid application development tools. And finally the QA team
with its suite of test cases started weeding out bugs. In about
10 weeks time a usable system by the customer was ready for
deployment on schedule and budget.
Case 3: Online custom print ordering system
The need:
The customer is a leading printing solution provider in North
America boasting a client list of many fortune 500 companies
over the last 50 yrs of its operation. Their application
provides seamless integration of the customers requirements to
the printing and logistics process. The online tools allow their
customers to configure and customize their printing needs.
Growing needs demanded that the application be constantly
enhanced. The customer would need an offshore partner to keep
pace with the changes and keep overhead costs at bay.
The solution:
Chimera provided a qualified application development team that
would coordinate with their peers and work on an integrated
development environment. Daily tasks, builds and reviews ensured
that the development team at Chimera was in sync with the needs
of the customer. The customer achieved a 24 hr. development cycle
with the flexibility to ramp up teams quickly. The development
lead at Chimera had been invited to their facility for a
training that would in turn help the offshore team thereby
creating a seamless integrated development environment. Weekly
reviews by the project leaders from both sides ensured that
issues were predicted earlier and ironed out quickly.
Case 4: Active Directory Self Service - Web part
The Need:
It was request that Chimera conceptualize a solution and build
an SPS web part - Active Directory Self Service - to ensure that
the users of an SPS portal system be able to modify their
profile and save them back to the ADS and on the SPS system as
well. The deployment environments are usually complex set of
servers and span multiple languages.
The solution:
Chimeras' solution to the above task is being much accepted
today. The webpart developed was beta tested at multiple
locations with various deployment environments. The web part
finally was also recognized by the Microsoft team and is
currently being promoted on their online store.
